Description

The Free State of Bavaria supports non-profit organizations, foundations, associations, as well as municipal sponsors and permanently established animal welfare organizations based in Bavaria that plan construction, renovation, or modernization measures in animal shelters. Funding is provided for investments in new construction, expansions, and conversions, as well as energy-related and hygienic improvements, the expansion of quarantine spaces, and the provision of necessary equipment and materials. In addition, expenses for the placement of shelter animals into private households and measures for the neutering of stray domestic cats can be subsidized. The funding is granted as a non-repayable subsidy amounting to 50% of eligible costs, with up to €300,000 for construction projects and up to €10,000 for equipment per calendar year. Flat rates remunerate placement activities (€80 per dog, €30 per cat/small animal) as well as neutering (€70 female, €45 male) up to a maximum amount of €20,000 annually. Applications can be submitted continuously throughout the current calendar year.

A prerequisite for a successful application is proof of non-profit status, valid public-law permits and usage rights for the premises, compliance with animal welfare regulations, as well as economic viability. Veterinary services must be performed under the supervision of licensed veterinarians, and regular municipal services must be demonstrated (for non-municipal applicants). Funding decisions are based on cost-effectiveness, improvement of animal-appropriate accommodation, and animal welfare requirements. A detailed report on the use of funds, including evaluation of offers and documentation of the project process, must be submitted after project completion. This forward-looking investment strengthens the infrastructure of Bavarian animal shelters, optimizes care conditions, and makes a significant contribution to sustainable quality assurance in animal welfare.
