Description

The program supports comprehensive animal welfare measures in Burgenland, focusing on sustainable housing, prevention, and networking. At its core is the Sonnenhof Regional Animal Shelter as a center of expertise, which, in addition to caring for and rehoming animals, enables targeted awareness-raising and educational campaigns, particularly for young people. The funding strengthens energy efficiency and climate protection within the animal welfare environment, while pursuing the shared goal of responsibly securing the lives and well-being of animals as fellow creatures. Eligible for funding are non-profit organizations, private individuals, as well as interest groups and associations that meet the legal requirements as an approved animal shelter or an approved animal boarding facility.

Expenditures for the housing and rehoming of animals, preventive educational and networking measures, as well as monitoring and information exchange, are supported. An informal application to the Office of the Burgenland State Government, Department 10, Veterinary Directorate and Animal Welfare Division, is sufficient for the request. Since the funding period is unlimited, applicants can continuously apply for funding regardless of deadlines. The activity report and proof of use serve as the basis for the processing and monitoring of funds. The program thus makes an important contribution to strengthening public understanding of animal welfare and obliges municipalities as well as private institutions to actively participate in the sense of a holistic protection concept.
