Description
Intercompany Vocational Training offers a targeted nationwide alternative in Austria for individuals seeking apprenticeships who, despite intensive efforts, were unable to find a company-based apprenticeship position or have discontinued such training. According to § 30b of the Vocational Training Act (BAG), practical skills are imparted in specialized training facilities and cooperating companies. Complementing attendance at vocational school, there is a close integration of theory and practice to optimally prepare for the final apprenticeship examination. The measure is granted as a subsidy by the Public Employment Service (AMS) and can be supported by EU co-financing. Since January 1, 2013, a flexible budget has been available, which can be drawn upon continuously until the entire volume is exhausted.
Eligible for funding are private individuals who have completed compulsory schooling, are registered with the AMS as seeking an apprenticeship, and have either not found a regular training position or have prematurely ended an apprenticeship. A prerequisite for the grant is proof of registration with the AMS and completion of compulsory schooling. Participants enter into a training contract with a training institution but receive, instead of an apprentice’s salary, a training allowance that covers all eligible expenses. The goal of this continuously open funding opportunity is to strengthen integration into the labor market and prepare young adults for independent employment. Through this offering, professional qualifications are enhanced and a contribution is made to reducing unemployment.
