Description

The German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU) funds interdisciplinary model projects nationwide that develop, test, and communicate innovative strategies, methods, and products for the preventive protection of nationally significant cultural assets and historic cultural landscapes from anthropogenic environmental impacts. Eligible for funding are companies, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and public authorities. Applicants must demonstrate the national significance of the cultural asset, provide evidence of endangerment due to environmental or climate stressors, pursue interdisciplinary approaches beyond the state of the art, and ensure model investigations and target group-specific communication. Funding is provided particularly for expenses related to the development of new methods, procedures, and products, concepts for preventive conservation, advanced training offers in sustainable cultural asset protection, innovative measures for monument, nature, and cultural landscape conservation, as well as model projects involving children and youth. Ongoing application opportunities allow for flexible project planning.

The funding decision is based on the degree of innovation, transferability, sustainability aspects, and interdisciplinarity. Application documents include a project description, financing plan, and evidence of the cultural asset’s significance as well as environmental endangerment. Approvals from restoration authorities and expertise on monument-appropriate measures must be attached. In close coordination with specialist authorities, suitable monitoring and documentation concepts are expected. The goal is sustainable effectiveness that ensures the long-term preservation of cultural heritage, simultaneously exerts a positive influence on energy efficiency and climate protection, and guarantees the transfer of expertise to professional audiences and local stakeholders. Interested project partners may submit their documents to the DBU at any time, thereby making a significant contribution to nationwide environmental and cultural asset protection.
