Environmental Funding - Aquatic Ecology for Municipal Funding Applicants

The funding call "Environmental Promotion – Aquatic Ecology for Municipal Applicants" in Lower Austria specifically supports measures to improve the ecological continuity and hydromorphology of flowing waters. The focus is on the removal of transverse structures, the construction of fish passage aids, as well as the restoration of natural watercourse profiles with variable width and depth structures. The preparation of concepts, investigations, studies, plans, and expert reports also falls within the scope of funding. These measures promote biodiversity and advance the achievement of environmental objectives according to the EU Water Framework Directive in the region.

Eligible applicants are municipalities as well as natural and legal persons without economic activity and market function. A prerequisite is implementation in the public interest, consideration in the National Water Management Plan, and submission of the application before construction begins to the Water Engineering Department of the Office of the Lower Austrian State Government. The application must include, among other things, the completed funding application form of the Lower Austrian Water Management Fund, documents for federal funding according to the Environmental Promotion Act, as well as all invoice verifications and final accounting documents. Applications can be submitted until July 18, 2027 to implement sustainable aquatic ecological projects with the support of experts and planning partners.
