Description
The environmental funding – municipal water management in Lower Austria supports the construction, expansion, renewal, and renovation of public water supply, wastewater disposal, and treatment plants, as well as the installation of individual systems outside built-up areas. Funding is provided to municipalities, associations, cooperatives, companies, non-profit organizations, and private individuals who aim to ensure hygienically safe drinking water supply and environmentally sound wastewater disposal. The funding measure targets both regional and supra-regional infrastructure projects as well as smaller individual systems for up to four properties that cannot be ecologically or economically reasonably connected to a municipal network. Ongoing funding rates of up to 40% of eligible costs strengthen climate adaptation, energy savings, and blackout preparedness and ensure sustainable operation management.
Investment costs such as water and wastewater pipelines, planning and construction supervision services, and accompanying engineering studies are funded. Measures for rainwater retention, blackout preparedness, energy efficiency, or photovoltaic use on existing facilities benefit from minimum funding amounts. Connection lines for private properties can also be subsidized at 30%. Applicants submit their applications continuously before construction begins to the Department of Municipal Water Management of the State of Lower Austria. Required documents include project description, site and object plans, technical report, water law permit, water analysis results, connection application, and invoices with proof of payment. After positive evaluation, a funding commitment is issued; advance payments and final financing are made according to construction progress. The annual budget amounts to €20 million, thereby sustainably strengthening future-oriented infrastructure in rural and urban areas.
