Description
Since 2016, the Trees for Nuremberg Foundation has been supporting environmental education initiatives and the planting of new trees in schoolyards in Nuremberg and the surrounding area. Educational institutions and public organizations in Bavaria can apply for a grant informally at any time. Up to €1,500 per school is available for material costs, tree procurement including planting work, as well as accompanying environmental education programs. Funding is provided at 100% and is awarded after successful review of the documents and an on-site appointment. Special consideration is given to concepts in which students actively participate in planting and maintenance.
The goal is to strengthen education for sustainable development and to create additional green spaces on school grounds. A prerequisite for funding approval is the consent of the responsible school authority regarding the planting site and a supervising teacher who professionally supports the project and ensures long-term care. In the selection process, the foundation pays attention to the suitability of the substrate, a coherent planting and maintenance concept, as well as the possibility of student-led implementation. Through regular environmental activities and expert guidance, participants are sensitized to responsibility in climate protection and the urban quality of life is sustainably enhanced.
