Non-profit organizations, companies, educational institutions, as well as individuals, initiatives, interest groups, and commercial enterprises based in Cologne are eligible to participate. Special emphasis is placed on projects in the fields of environmental/nature conservation, climate protection, education for sustainable development, energy efficiency, and training & further education. The goal is to raise awareness of environmentally friendly lifestyles and economic practices and to further expand commitment to climate protection and resource conservation in the city. Evaluations are based on ecological improvements, sustainability aspects, and the voluntary nature of the submitted contributions.
The award is presented as a certificate of recognition and is endowed with a total of €6,000; children’s, youth, and school groups receive a separate funding amount of €4,000. Applications require a fully completed participation form, a detailed project description, and proof of the project. The deadline for submitting all documents is July 31, 2026. Based on these submissions, the jury selects the award winners and those receiving special commendations before the Mayor presents the certificates. The competition is aimed at all those who voluntarily contribute to environmental and climate protection within the city of Cologne, thereby providing an important impetus for a livable future.
