Description

The Greenpeace Environmental Foundation supports nonprofit project sponsors, foundations, public and educational institutions, as well as interest groups and associations nationwide that implement long-term concepts in the fields of environmental and nature conservation, climate protection, marine conservation, biodiversity and animal welfare, as well as environmental technology and peace work. Since its founding in 1999, the foundation's capital has been derived from ecologically and ethically oriented investments, endowments, and donations. The proceeds primarily fund projects that enable the preservation of forests and biotopes, protected areas in inland waters and seas, research initiatives in sustainable agriculture, and innovative approaches to reducing greenhouse gases. This approach addresses not only acute environmental issues but also supports preventive and educational initiatives over the long term.

Only nonprofit-recognized entities presenting strategic and sustainable project concepts are eligible for funding. The Greenpeace Environmental Foundation awards grants upon application at any time without fixed deadlines—thus, project leaders can continuously secure funds for new initiatives. The goal is to build effective measures for preserving natural life foundations and promoting social peace through ongoing support and financial assistance. The foundation places special emphasis on transparency and a forward-looking funding practice that helps harmonize ecological, social, and ethical standards, thereby optimally strengthening founding and follow-up projects.
