Description

The funding program awards monthly grants of up to €600 for medical students from the third year of study onwards at German or EU/EWR universities with a Bavarian cooperation partner. Within a maximum of 48 months, flat-rate living expenses are covered in the areas of housing (€250), food (€100), education and learning materials (€70), health and hygiene (€50), communication (€50), mobility (€50), and clothing (€90). The goal is to support a motivated generation of medical specialists who commit to beginning their specialist training within six months of graduation in the rural funding area of Bavaria and subsequently to work as physicians there for at least five years. This is intended to sustainably ensure high-quality, comprehensive healthcare coverage in rural regions.

Only students of human medicine who complete at least half of the standard period of study at the location of the Bavarian cooperation partner and who have not obtained a place through the rural doctor quota or the public health service quota are eligible for funding. The application requires a current certificate of enrollment, a study progress certificate with a detailed semester overview, and – if available – the certificate of the First Medical Examination. Applications can be submitted at any time until December 31, 2027, to the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety. Upon positive review, approval and disbursement of the flat-rate scholarship amount will follow. The program is aimed at all those who wish to contribute to medical care in rural Bavaria in the long term.
