Description

The Vienna Film Incentive of the City of Vienna offers international film production companies a non-repayable grant of up to 30% of the variable shooting costs incurred in Vienna (max. €400,000). The prerequisite is a fictional or non-fictional production with a minimum duration of 45 minutes, at least two actual shooting days within the city area, and a successful cultural eligibility test. The program aims to increase Vienna’s attractiveness as a filming location worldwide, strengthen the local film industry, and enhance the tourism effect through international distribution. Only expenses directly related to filming in Vienna (personnel and company services) are eligible, whereby wages and fees are only considered if they are taxable in Austria. Pure advertising, image, or industrial films as well as theater, opera, and concert recordings are excluded.

Interested international production companies must submit their applications continuously until December 31, 2026, at the latest two weeks before the start of filming via the official submission portal. Submission documents include, in addition to cost, schedule, and financing plans, a crew and cast list with nationalities, annual financial statements for the last two years, and proof of company headquarters in Austria. Allocation is made on a first-come, first-served basis once all requirements are met and overall financing is proven. After completion of filming, the actual eligible costs must be settled by means of documented planned-vs-actual comparisons. The Vienna Film Commission provides support regarding the cultural eligibility test, filming permits, and local service partners to ensure smooth processing and maximum value creation in Vienna.
