Description
The Vienna Film Incentive supports international feature film, series, and documentary productions with a minimum runtime of 45 minutes and at least two actual shooting days taking place in Vienna. All variable production costs directly incurred in the city are eligible for funding – these include personnel costs, location services, technical equipment, as well as project-related expenses. The funding rate is up to 30% of the recognized production costs, but no more than €400,000. A successful cultural eligibility test is a prerequisite, which assesses the content-related anchoring of Vienna based on criteria such as the proportion of shooting locations, Viennese motifs, and Austrian crew. Applications can be submitted continuously via the online portal until December 31, 2026, at the latest two weeks before the start of shooting. There is no legal entitlement, as allocation is made on a first-come, first-served basis and subject to available budget funds.
With the Vienna Film Incentive, the City of Vienna aims to bring its diverse locations to international screens, increase local value creation, and strengthen the tourism sector. Eligible for funding are companies established in Vienna acting as service production firms commissioned by the foreign main production company. For the application, among other documents, a project description, cost and financing plan, crew and cast list, screenplay, and financial statements from the last two years are required. After a positive decision, a time-limited funding offer is sent, which must be signed within two weeks. As part of the accounting process, a detailed target-actual comparison must be submitted; upon compliance with all conditions, the grant will be disbursed. The participation conditions and criteria are set out in the funding guidelines. Submissions are exclusively made via the portal of the Vienna Tourist Board.
