Description
In Baden-Württemberg, the Kinderstiftung Ravensburg supports the joy of reading and language skills of children and adolescents in the Schussental region through its continuously available grant project. Non-profit organizations, public institutions, and private individuals can apply to implement volunteer reading sessions in daycare centers, schools, libraries, and family meeting places. In regular reading rounds, small groups immerse themselves in exciting stories and collect stamps on a reading card with each participation, which entitle them to an annual raffle of book vouchers. Upon request, the reading locations are also provided with a book lending box so that the read material can be taken home.
The funding objective is to strengthen reading motivation, concentration ability, and vocabulary through personal attention and voluntary commitment. Participating reading mentors complete a basic course in advance and take part in exchange meetings as well as optional advanced seminars – for example, on Kamishibai or hand puppets. For the application, a brief letter of motivation and proof of participation in the training offer must be submitted. Motivation, reliability, and the joy of reading aloud are central to the evaluation. Since registrations are possible at any time, interested parties can take on the role of reader without deadline pressure and thus make a valuable contribution to children's education and social cohesion.
