Description
The Walther E. Petrascheck Prize honors outstanding scientific work in the field of geosciences and is aimed at young early-career researchers under the age of 35 from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. The award, endowed with €4,000, is presented every two years in even-numbered years and recognizes excellent contributions to geoscientific questions – ranging from geology and geophysics to geochemistry, environmental geosciences, and geodynamics. The prize is awarded by a selection committee of the Mathematical and Natural Sciences Class of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, which carefully evaluates the quality of the submitted publications as well as the individual contribution of the applicants. The continuously open submission period begins on January 1, 2025, and is unlimited in duration.
Eligible to participate are scientists working at a university or non-university research institution in one of the aforementioned countries who can demonstrate outstanding geoscientific work. Application requirements include a curriculum vitae with a list of publications, abstracts of the submitted publications, and a selection of up to five relevant publications with a description of the applicant’s own contribution. In addition, a fully completed online form must be submitted. Evaluation is based on the scientific excellence of the works and the applicant’s contribution to the selected publications. With this funding opportunity, the Austrian Academy of Sciences creates a significant incentive for young geoscientists to present their innovative research projects to an international expert jury and to highlight outstanding achievements in this field.
