Vienna Language Vouchers

Since January 2022, the City of Vienna has been supporting newly arrived individuals with a one-time language voucher worth 150 euros, which can be used for German courses offered by recognized course providers. The voucher is valid for 30 months from the date of issue and can be applied both to courses that started up to six weeks before issuance and to those starting afterward. This covers course participation fees and provides newcomers with straightforward financial relief in learning the German language.

Eligible for funding are persons who have registered their main residence in Vienna within the past two years and hold certain residence permits – such as the Red-White-Red Card (plus), settlement permit, EU Blue Card, or residence card for family members of third-country nationals with EEA or Swiss citizenship – as well as EU/EEA and Swiss citizens with a registration certificate. Short-term residence permits, refugee status, or tourist stays exclude eligibility for funding. Applications can be submitted at any time without limitation. The City of Vienna – Department of Integration and Diversity – verifies compliance with the quality standards of the course providers and settles the vouchers directly with the organizers. This offer facilitates linguistic integration and promotes participation in the labor market, education, and social life of the city.
