Description

The Scientific Work and Funding Program 2025–2029 of the Foundation for Environment and Damage Prevention focuses on “Coupled and Extreme Risks from Weather Events – Analysis, Management, and Communication.” In this fourth funding period, doctoral scholarships are awarded for four central topics, ranging from changes in severe thunderstorms to innovative methods of risk management and risk communication. Additionally, the foundation supports specialist events related to these program contents and awards prizes for outstanding scientific work. The goal is to better understand meteorological processes of extremely interconnected weather risks, promote interdisciplinary networking at the participating universities, and derive implications for effective risk management as well as target-group-oriented risk communication.

Funding is provided to individuals with suitable professional backgrounds and above-average qualifications at the universities of Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Dresden, and Hohenheim. Eligible expenses include doctoral scholarships for 48 months, grants for specialist events, and awards for scientific contributions. The selection criteria place central importance on the innovative content of the research, interdisciplinary networking, and the quality of the research question. The program start is possible from January 1, 2025. Through this targeted support, the graduate program makes a decisive contribution to the further development of prevention strategies and the strengthening of resilience against increasing weather extremes in Baden-Württemberg.
