Description

The Yagmur Memorial Award "Civil Courage in Child Protection" annually honors outstanding commitment in Hamburg and Northern Germany on the anniversary of Yagmur’s death (December 18). With a prize money of €2,000, individuals, non-profit associations, institutions, and initiatives are recognized that exemplarily protect children’s rights and demonstrate civil courage in child protection. The award is dedicated to making courageous projects and individuals visible, who counteract abuse and neglect through preventive measures and concrete support services. An independent jury, consisting of professionals and experts, evaluates submitted proposals based on demonstrable impact on child protection, the degree of civil courage, and the sustainability of the projects.

Proposals can be submitted continuously, with each recommendation requiring a written justification (maximum two pages) including the name and contact details of the nominated person or institution. An informal nomination by email to the Yagmur Memorial Foundation is sufficient to be included in the selection process. The aim of the award is to emphasize the importance of civil courage in dealing with vulnerable children and to provide an impetus for social cohesion. Through the annual presentation on December 18, the memory of Yagmur is kept alive and the necessity of a culture of attentiveness towards children is continuously emphasized.
