Description

The Yagmur Memorial Award “Civil Courage in Child Protection” annually honors outstanding commitment to protecting children from neglect, abuse, and violence in Hamburg and Northern Germany. With an endowed sum of €2,000, the award supports individuals, initiatives, or institutions that demonstrate courageous and exemplary dedication to child protection. The award is presented each year on the anniversary of Yagmur’s death and symbolically represents all those who tirelessly advocate for children in difficult life situations. The jury places special emphasis on demonstrated civil courage, proven effectiveness in the supported area, as well as the exemplary nature and sustainability of the activities. The award is administered by the non-profit Yagmur Memorial Foundation, which since its establishment in 2016 has been committed, among other things, to networking politics, authorities, and civil society.

Eligible for funding are private individuals, non-profit organizations, interest groups, associations, and public institutions with a primary focus in Hamburg and Northern Germany. Nominations can be submitted continuously and require a written justification of the commitment (maximum two pages) as well as the name and contact details of the nominated person or institution. The application is subject to clearly defined evaluation criteria, which, in addition to courage and exemplary conduct in child protection, also consider regional relevance and the transferability of good practice models. Through the continuous submission option, the memorial award offers all committed actors an equal opportunity to be recognized for their efforts in the interest of social cohesion and the welfare of the child.
