Bavarian Research Foundation – High Technologies for the 21st Century

The technology-neutral funding program “Future Technologies for the Bavarian Economy” supports companies, universities, and non-university research institutions based in Bavaria in application-oriented research and development projects with high innovation potential. The goal is to develop new technologies, processes, products, and services with subsequent economic utilization. Collaborative projects are funded in which at least one industry and one scientific partner work together. The program line allows grants between 25% and 100% of eligible costs, depending on the project category (basic research, industrial research, or experimental development), risk profile, and consortium structure. Total amounts of up to €3 million are possible, with a maximum project duration of 36 months. Eligible expenses include, among others, personnel costs, material and investment costs, travel expenses, and external services. An appropriate co-financing contribution must be demonstrated.

Applications can be submitted at any time and are not subject to deadlines. Required are a detailed project description, a financing and utilization plan, as well as CVs of the project partners. Selection is made through external expert reviews as well as an evaluation by the Scientific Advisory Board and the foundation’s committees. Evaluation criteria include, besides the level of innovation and technical risk, primarily the qualification of the consortium and the implementation perspective. The program particularly supports small and medium-sized enterprises and contributes to energy efficiency, digitalization, climate protection, and renewable energies. The Bavarian Transformation and Research Foundation accompanies the project partners in a partnership from the initial outline to completion, ensuring flexible processing and transparent procedures.
