Description
The Stiftung Umwelt und Entwicklung Nordrhein-Westfalen supports non-profit organizations, interest groups, associations, and public institutions in NRW in conducting exchange trips with partner groups in the Global South. The focus is on ecological, political, cultural, and social issues, which are developed and conveyed together with local communities. At least half of the travel program must serve to inform and educate people in North Rhine-Westphalia, illustrating sustainability topics, global interconnections, and local action perspectives. The funding rate is up to 30% of the total costs, with economy class flights or equivalent, second-class train travel, as well as measures for the preparation and follow-up of the trips recognized as eligible expenses. Visits by local groups to partners abroad, luxury travel classes, or programs primarily serving the training of guests are not funded.
Applications can be submitted continuously and require a close partnership with a group or community in the Global South as well as alignment with the statutory purposes of the foundation. Evaluation criteria include, in addition to the ecological, social, political, and economic embedding of the project idea, above all the educational and informational character for broad target groups in NRW and the outreach beyond the partner group itself. For the application, the Exchange Trips Application Form, the General Funding Contract Conditions, the Guidelines for Funding Recipients, and the Exchange Trips Proof of Use are required. Through these exchange trips, partnership groups from the Global South can directly present their experiences and expertise in North Rhine-Westphalia, thereby making an important contribution to global education and social cohesion.
