Grant for Disability-Accessible Equipment of Motor Vehicles

In Styria, there is an ongoing funding program in the form of a grant for disability-accessible equipment of motor vehicles. Private individuals with special support needs receive financial assistance through the Office of the Styrian State Government, Department 11 Social Affairs, to implement technical modifications and conversions to the vehicle. The funding aims to enable or permanently ensure barrier-free access to motor vehicles for people with disabilities. Eligible expenses include customized modifications such as hand controls, adjustable seats, or special steering systems, provided these are necessary due to individual mobility requirements. The program is not subject to fixed deadlines and is continuously available to allow applications at any time.

Eligible for funding is any person recognized as a person with a disability according to the Styrian Disability Act, whose mobility would be restricted without appropriate vehicle equipment. Upon positive application review, the grant covers the eligible costs proportionally and thus contributes to enabling a self-determined mobility in daily life. Applications can be submitted at any time; proof of disability recognition as well as a detailed breakdown of the planned expenses must be provided. The legal basis is the agreement pursuant to Art. 15a B-VG on matters of disability assistance as well as the Styrian Disability Act including the service and fee regulation.
