Description
The funding supports holders of sheep and goat herds in Lower Austria in the acquisition of three to ten female breeding animals per farm and year. With a subsidy of €60 per animal, the program contributes to the preservation and quality improvement of regional sheep and goat farming and thus ensures an important contribution to traditional, small-scale agricultural land management. Eligible for funding are natural and legal persons with a business location in Lower Austria who keep and operate sheep or goats in their own name and on their own account.
A prerequisite for approval is the purchase from a recognized breeding operation as well as the presence of official breeding certificates for animals aged 4 to 18 months. The subsidized breeding animals must remain on the farm for at least twelve months to improve the herd. Further conditions concern compliance with agricultural de minimis regulations. Applications may be submitted by farm managers who can prove the acquisition costs with corresponding invoices and submit the required documents – including the completed funding application form, breeding certificates, de minimis declaration, and, if applicable, livestock traffic permits and certificates of non-suspect status from the breeding operation – in full. Applications can be submitted annually until no later than November 30. Thus, the program offers an attractive opportunity to sustainably strengthen one’s own livestock and contribute to the future viability of domestic agriculture.
