Description

The funding program "Grants for Water Management Projects (RZWas 2021)" of the Free State of Bavaria supports territorial authorities, public-law associations, and municipal enterprises in water management projects of public interest. In particular, measures for planning, construction, and concept development in the fields of agriculture & rural development, infrastructure, urban development, and water protection are funded. Without these grants, important flood protection, water maintenance, and development projects could often not be implemented or only to a limited extent. The multi-stage application process is conducted directly with the locally responsible Water Management Office, with ongoing funding opportunities available and the legal basis anchored in the RZWas 2021 guidelines.

Up to 90% of eligible expenses are funded, including planning and construction costs as well as costs for flood protection and water maintenance concepts. Proof of economic efficiency and thriftiness is a prerequisite. Application documents to be submitted include, among others, the "Application according to Template 1a," "Annex 01 Special Conditions (NBest-Was 2025)," "Annex 2 Determination of Per Capita Burden," "Annex 3 Construction Status Report," as well as proof of use and confirmation. Grant approval requires timely submission to the responsible Water Management Office, which also conducts the technical preliminary review. The program aims to ensure equivalent living and working conditions throughout the Free State and to relieve municipalities of costly water management challenges.
