Purpose grant for railway crossings according to FAG

The purpose grant for railway crossings according to FAG is aimed at public institutions in Carinthia, particularly municipalities as the entities responsible for road maintenance on municipal roads. The goal is to provide financial support for investments in the adaptation, renewal, or closure of railway crossings in accordance with the Railway Crossing Ordinance 2012 (EisbKrV). Within the scope of this funding, technical safety installations are reviewed and necessary measures are co-financed together with the railway company. The funding covers both modifications and new constructions as well as the complete closure of no longer needed crossings. Applications can be submitted until August 31, 2034, to the Office of the Carinthian State Government, Department 7 (Economy, Tourism and Mobility). The measure has been open since September 1, 2012, offering long-term planning security for the affected municipalities.

This grant aims to increase traffic safety at railway crossings and sustainably reduce the financial burden for municipal road authorities. A prerequisite for funding is either investment in technical railway crossing safety installations or the closure of a railway crossing on municipal roads. The funding is provided as a direct grant, based on § 29 para. 3 FAG 2024. Through targeted support, municipal representatives can mitigate investment costs while complying with the legal requirements of the EisbKrV.
