The Department of Society is an organizational unit of the Directorate for Culture and Society within the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government. It is responsible for the management and coordination of central tasks in the areas of education and society, religious affairs, and sports. Serving as a link between the state administration and civil society actors, it promotes collaboration with schools, cultural institutions, sports clubs, and social organizations. The goal is to create conditions in Upper Austria that sustainably strengthen educational, cultural, and sports offerings across all regions.

The Department of Society is committed to promoting social participation and cultural diversity in Upper Austria. Through collaborative partnerships with educational institutions, cultural organizations, and sports clubs, we aim to provide sustainable impetus for community engagement and ensure quality of life in all regions of the state.

The funding and service offerings of the Department of Society are aimed at educational institutions (schools, adult education), cultural and church organizations, sports organizations, associations, as well as initiatives and individuals implementing educational, cultural, or sports projects in Upper Austria. Priority is given to projects of statewide or regional significance that contribute to strengthening social cohesion.
