Department 16 "Transport and State Building Construction" of the Styrian Provincial Government Office is responsible for the development, planning, tendering, and execution of major projects in road, tunnel, and bridge construction as well as state building construction. It manages the expansion and maintenance of the state road infrastructure, approves infrastructure and aviation projects, and shapes sustainable transport policy based on the Styrian overall transport program and national as well as EU legal requirements. Additionally, the department coordinates statewide matters of building culture and architecture in state building construction, ensures construction readiness, and supports construction projects from planning through acceptance and subsequently in facility and energy management.

Our mission is to promote an environmentally friendly, safe, and efficient transportation system in Styria as well as to ensure high-quality state building construction. We emphasize sustainable mobility, taking into account pedestrian, bicycle, and public transport, to improve accessibility both domestically and internationally. In state building construction, we strive for a coordinated approach in cultural, architectural, and technical matters and promote innovative standards for state properties.

Department 16 is aimed at municipalities, transport companies, planners, architectural and engineering firms, as well as citizens and businesses requiring permits for transport infrastructure projects, special transports, construction work in public spaces, or state building projects. It serves specialist departments, organizations, and grant recipients involved in the implementation and financing of road, tunnel, and building projects, as well as in the development of sustainable transport policy in Styria.
