Artenschutzstiftung Zoo Karlsruhe

Private foundation

About the funder

The Artenschutzstiftung Zoo Karlsruhe was established in 2016 by the director of Zoo Karlsruhe, Prof. Dr. Matthias Reinschmidt. As a non-profit foundation, it supports projects worldwide and locally aimed at protecting endangered animal species and their habitats. Its portfolio ranges from global conservation projects – such as for polar bears in the Arctic or hyacinth macaws in Bolivia – to regional initiatives in Baden-Württemberg, including the reintroduction of ospreys and lynxes. The foundation works closely with research institutions, environmental organizations, and local communities, funding conservation breeding programs, field research, as well as environmental education and awareness-raising measures.

Mission & Vision

Our mission is to preserve biological diversity and secure a livable future for endangered animal species. By combining research, practical conservation efforts, and educational programs, we aim to raise awareness of the importance of species protection and initiate sustainable change. We believe in a world where humans and nature live in harmony.

Target groups

The funding programs are aimed at nature conservation organizations, zoological institutions, scientific institutes, and local environmental associations that implement specific species protection projects. In addition, the foundation addresses private and institutional donors who wish to promote global and regional biodiversity in the long term, as well as visitors to Karlsruhe Zoo, who can actively contribute to the protection of endangered species through educational programs and sponsorships.
