About the funder

The AWO Foundation Gelsenkirchen was established in 2007 by the Workers' Welfare Association with the aim of permanently promoting education and joy of life to enhance the quality of life in Gelsenkirchen. It funds individual initiatives as well as projects for larger groups, including neighborhood gardens, excursion and exercise programs, film projects for youth, and social networks for seniors. Since July 2013, the foundation, which operates predominantly on a voluntary basis, has been officially recognized as an independent institution.
