About the funder

The Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) within the Federal Office for Building and Regional Planning is a scientific and technical research institution of the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building. Within the framework of the federal program "Adaptation of Urban and Rural Areas to Climate Change" (KlimaRäume), the BBSR ensures the professional and administrative implementation. This includes project development, support, and evaluation of measures to strengthen blue-green infrastructure, as well as the provision of publications and services.

Mission & Vision

The BBSR promotes climate-resilient development of cities and municipalities to enhance resistance to heat, drought, and flooding. Through scientifically grounded project support, monitoring, and the exchange of best practices, the institute contributes to creating livable and sustainable settlement areas.

Target groups

The funding programs and service offerings of the BBSR are aimed at municipal actors: cities, municipalities, and districts that wish to implement projects to adapt their settlement areas to the impacts of climate change. Eligible to apply are municipalities in whose territory and ownership the planned project is located.
