About the funder

The Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) is the highest federal authority in Austria responsible for internal security, police, asylum and immigration affairs, civil protection, and disaster management. Within the BMI, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BK) serves as the central criminal police authority, coordinating, among other tasks, international cooperation, manhunts, and forensic support. The BMI also administers funding programs in the areas of internal security and asylum/migration, particularly within the framework of EU funds such as AMIF (Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund) and ISF (Internal Security Fund).

Mission & Vision

The mission of the Federal Ministry of the Interior is to ensure public peace, order, and security in Austria. The ministry promotes the rule of law, effective police and protective measures, as well as orderly migration and asylum procedures. Through transparent allocation of funding for security, integration, and disaster protection projects, the BMI aims to strengthen the resilience of society and reinforce citizens' trust in state institutions.

Target groups

National and international projects of public authorities, police and security agencies, research institutions, non-profit organizations, and civil society initiatives active in the fields of internal security, crime prevention, asylum, migration, and integration are funded. The target groups are primarily authorities, NGOs, and scientific institutions that develop innovative approaches for security management, border control, victim support, and social integration.
