The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Homeland (BMLEH) is a supreme federal authority headquartered in Bonn (Rochusstraße 1) with an office in Berlin (Wilhelmstraße 54). It was established in 1949, with roots dating back to 1919; it has borne its current name since 2025 under Minister Alois Rainer (CSU). With approximately 1,100 employees, it is responsible for agricultural, food, forestry, and fisheries policy, as well as homeland policy and rural development since 2025. Well-known funding programs include the Joint Task "Improvement of Agricultural Structures and Coastal Protection" (GAK), the Federal Organic Farming Program, Land.Homeland.Innovative, the BMLEH Innovation Program, and the Federal Program to Increase Energy Efficiency in Agriculture and Horticulture.

Mission & Vision

Target groups
The funding programs of the BMLEH are aimed at agricultural enterprises (conventional and organic), companies from horticulture, forestry, and fisheries, research institutions, rural communities and municipalities, as well as civil society organizations in rural areas. Geographic focus: entire federal territory, with a special emphasis on structurally weak rural regions. Requirements vary depending on the program.
