About the funder

The Federal Ministry for Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport (BMWKMS) is the Austrian federal authority responsible for the promotion, regulation, and strategic management of sports funding at the national level. Within the ministry, Section II – Sport coordinates the design and implementation of funding programs for mass sports, health sports, school and youth sports, as well as elite, competitive, and youth development sports. Its responsibilities also include investment funding for sports facilities, support for major sporting events, inclusion of people with disabilities in sports, contact management with international sports federations, and the development of sports strategy, sports science, and sports technology.

Mission & Vision

Section II – Sport at the BMWKMS is committed to promoting sport and physical activity as a shared foundation for health, social integration, and equal opportunities. Our goal is to expand sports participation across all population groups through targeted funding programs, to provide optimal support for Austrian elite athletes, and to develop sports infrastructure sustainably. We believe in the unifying power of sport and work in partnership with clubs, associations, and international organizations to strengthen Austria as a sporting nation.

Target groups

Eligible to apply are sports clubs, associations, non-profit organizations, public institutions, and other legal entities without profit motive based in Austria. Projects in the areas of health, school & grassroots sports (Section II/5), sport and society (Section II/1), as well as elite, competitive, and youth sports including sports science and sports technology (Section II/4) are funded. The programs target initiatives that strengthen sports at the grassroots level, implement innovative concepts, and achieve sustainable impacts across multiple federal states.
