About the funder

The Claere Jung Foundation is a legally recognized foundation under civil law based in Hamburg. It was established in 1974 by the Hamburg merchant Ernst Jung from the estate of his late wife Claere. The foundation supports three main areas: research projects at the University Eye Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf, initiatives for blind and visually impaired people, and programs for socially disadvantaged children and youth in Hamburg. Since its inception, the foundation’s assets have been used without significant bureaucratic obstacles to improve the quality of life, participation opportunities, and future prospects of the target groups.

Mission & Vision

Ownership entails responsibility – strengthening personal accountability for the common good. The Claere Jung Foundation is committed, through its legacy, to providing disadvantaged and needy individuals with access to education, care, and research through targeted financial support. Funds are awarded twice a year on a non-profit and purpose-bound basis to effect sustainable change and promote potential.

Target groups

The funding programs of the Claere Jung Foundation are aimed at blind and severely visually impaired adults and children, socially disadvantaged children and adolescents in Hamburg – particularly in institutions of independent welfare organizations and municipal providers – as well as at scientists and research teams of the University Eye Clinic Hamburg-Eppendorf who conduct ophthalmological and optical research projects and develop innovative clinical procedures.
