About the funder

The German-Polish Science Foundation (DPWS) is a legal foundation under civil law based in Frankfurt (Oder). It was established in 2008 by the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Poland, and the State of Brandenburg to promote scientific cooperation in the humanities, social sciences, cultural studies, law, and economics. The DPWS supports research projects, scientific events, networks, as well as teaching and research initiatives in German-Polish partnership. Since its founding, approximately 500 projects have been funded with a total of about 14 million euros, enabling cooperation between over 240 institutions in both countries.

Mission & Vision

The DPWS aims to strengthen German-Polish international understanding and European integration through excellent bilateral research and education. Its funding purpose is to support students and researchers from both countries in joint projects that make a sustainable contribution to the qualification of young scientists and to the deepening of the German-Polish dialogue.

Target groups

The target group of the DPWS comprises universities, non-university research institutions, and other scientific organizations in Germany and Poland that jointly carry out time-limited projects in the humanities, social sciences, cultural studies, law, and economics. Funding is provided to students, doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, as well as established scholars who implement innovative initiatives in German-Polish partnership and address German-Polish topics within the European context.
