About the funder
The Deutsche José Carreras Leukemia Foundation e.V. was founded in 1995 by José Carreras with the overarching goal “Leukemia must become curable. Always and for everyone.” Since then, the non-profit organization has funded over 1,400 national and international projects in the fields of research, infrastructure, and social support. These include experimental and clinical research projects, large and small infrastructure initiatives at university hospitals, as well as psychosocial services such as parent accommodations and self-help groups. The Scientific Advisory Board, composed of renowned hematologists, ensures a transparent, independent selection and awarding process.

Mission & Vision
"Leukemia must become curable. Always and for everyone." The German José Carreras Leukemia Foundation is committed to improving the chances of cure and quality of life for leukemia patients worldwide through targeted research funding, the development of modern infrastructure, and psychosocial support. Solidarity, compassion, and sustainability are the core values guiding every funding decision.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at: scientists and early-career researchers in Germany conducting experimental or clinical research in the field of leukemia and hemato-oncological diseases; clinical institutions and research centers implementing the expansion of specialized wards, laboratory facilities, and care infrastructure; self-help groups, parent initiatives, and psychosocial projects supporting patients and their relatives during and after therapy; physicians within the framework of the Clinician-Scientist Program who wish to establish an independent research group.
