About the funder

The Einstein Foundation Berlin is a civil law foundation established in 2009 by the State of Berlin. It promotes independent cutting-edge research at Berlin universities and non-university research institutions. With an annual funding volume of over €20 million, it supports outstanding scientists and research centers to strengthen and enhance Berlin's visibility as an international science location. Funded projects range from Einstein Professorships and postdoctoral fellowships to international guest stays and Einstein Centers.

Mission & Vision

The Einstein Foundation promotes science and research in and for Berlin – independently and at an international top level. Our goal is to retain excellent researchers in Berlin, support early-career scientists, and build interdisciplinary networks so that new ideas emerge in the city and global challenges are addressed.

Target groups

Eligible to apply are professors and project leaders from the five Berlin universities (Freie Universität, Humboldt-Universität, Technische Universität, Universität der Künste, Charité – Universitätsmedizin) as well as selected publicly funded cooperation partners (e.g., institutes of the Max Planck, Helmholtz, Leibniz, and Fraunhofer associations) and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Funding is provided to outstanding researchers at all career stages who wish to carry out innovative research projects with significant benefits for the Berlin science location.
