The Gesellschaft für Energie und Klimaschutz Schleswig-Holstein GmbH (EKSH) is a non-profit company based in Kiel. Its shareholders are the state of Schleswig-Holstein, a university GbR, and HanseWerk AG. Since its founding in November 2011, EKSH has been promoting science, research, and educational projects in the fields of energy, environmental protection, and climate protection in Schleswig-Holstein. It provides approximately 2 million euros annually in grants for pilot projects. Its main areas of focus are sustainable mobility, renewable energies, sector coupling, energy efficiency, climate-friendly agriculture, and CO₂-reduced construction. Through programs and future projects such as "Energielandschaften Schleswig-Holstein 2042" or "Wohnwelten Schleswig-Holstein 2042," EKSH supports politics, business, and municipalities in strategic decision-making.

Mission & Vision
EKSH aims to support Schleswig-Holstein on its path to climate neutrality by strengthening knowledge transfer between science, business, and society, promoting educational measures, and empowering decision-makers through well-founded analyses and scenario-based future concepts (e.g., Energy Landscapes 2042). This is intended to achieve a sustainable and socially balanced transformation of the energy system.
Target groups
Eligible for funding are primarily universities, research institutions, and educational institutions in Schleswig-Holstein. In addition, municipal and public institutions, companies, associations/organizations, as well as private individuals can apply for grants for projects in the areas of energy production and climate protection, energy consumption and energy efficiency, energy supply and energy management, environmental and nature conservation, mobility, education, and public relations. The programs are aimed at stakeholders who wish to implement innovative approaches for a climate-friendly and sustainable energy future in Schleswig-Holstein.
