The Hessian Ministry of Science and Research, Arts and Culture (HMWK) is the highest state authority for science, research, arts, and culture in Hesse. It supports cultural initiatives and institutions as well as artists and their projects. The ministry is responsible for all universities in the state, university hospitals, Hessian student services, research institutions and research funding, as well as libraries and archives. It manages significant art institutions and cultural treasures of the state, including around 50 facilities such as state museums, state and regional theaters, castles, and gardens. The HMWK also participates in legislative initiatives at the state and federal levels and is committed to strengthening the cultural infrastructure in Hesse.
