Hofmann Hagemann Hildesheimer Stiftung

Public foundation

About the funder

The Hofmann Hagemann Hildesheimer Foundation was established in 2005 by Sophie Hagemann and is dedicated to supporting young, musically gifted individuals in the field of string instruments, as well as the preservation and dissemination of the compositions of Franz Hofmann (1920–1945). Sophie Hagemann designated the foundation as her heir to preserve the musical legacy of her husband, a talented composer and pianist. A particular focus lies on the loan of the historic "Guarneri ex Hildesheimer" violin from 1706, as well as on financial grants to provide outstanding students of the University of Music Nuremberg with training and continuing education opportunities. Additionally, the foundation supports public performances, sound recordings, and editions of Franz Hofmann's works.

Mission & Vision

The foundation aims to sustainably promote the musical education and further training of young artists in the field of string instruments, while simultaneously preserving the artistic work of Franz Hofmann through research, edition, and public performances. By providing high-quality instruments and financial support, it seeks to accompany musicians on their path to artistic excellence and enrich the cultural heritage.

Target groups

The funding programs are aimed at musically exceptionally talented young musicians, particularly students of the Nuremberg University of Music in the string instruments department. Furthermore, the foundation supports non-profit institutions and events in the field of string pedagogy as well as projects dedicated to the performance and dissemination of the compositions of Franz Hofmann. Individuals and institutions demonstrating outstanding artistic achievement in the string discipline may receive both instrumental loans and financial grants.
