About the funder
The MAK Maximilian and Alexander Maria Knauf Foundation for Disadvantaged Children is a non-profit foundation under civil law based in Munich, which was recognized in September 2010 in accordance with §§ 80, 81 of the German Civil Code (BGB). Since then, it has been specifically promoting projects to support children and adolescents from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in the greater Munich area. The focus areas are early childhood care, educational support, and socio-pedagogical guidance. The foundation implements its own "help for self-help" initiatives and supports third-party projects in the fields of mother-child care, integration of children with a migration background, violence prevention, strengthening social skills, and promoting children's rights.

Mission & Vision
Education creates the future. The MAK Foundation is committed to ensuring that social background does not determine the life path of children. Through timely intervention and targeted support, we aim to compensate for deficits and open up new perspectives. Our goal is to provide disadvantaged children and young people with access to adequate care, basic schooling, advanced education, and therapeutically supported vocational preparation.
Target groups
The target group of the foundation consists of disadvantaged children and adolescents in Germany, primarily in the greater Munich area, who have special support needs due to social, familial, or economic circumstances. This includes children from large families with low income, those with a migration background, living in precarious housing conditions, or with developmental deficits. The foundation supports individuals and groups who wish to develop their potential through targeted educational, care, and prevention programs.
