About the funder

The Max Grünebaum Foundation is a civil law foundation established in 1997, based in Cottbus. It is named after the cloth manufacturer, honorary citizen, and commercial councilor Max Grünebaum (1851–1925), who distinguished himself through extensive social commitment and cultural promotion in his hometown. The foundation annually awards the Max Grünebaum Prize as well as sponsorship awards (Karl Newman Prize, Ernst Frank Sponsorship Prize) to outstanding young artists of the State Theater Cottbus and to early-career researchers at the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg. In doing so, it continues Grünebaum’s legacy and strengthens the promotion of artistic and scientific talent in the region.
