About the funder

The Plattdüütsch-Stiftung Neddersassen was founded in 2007 on the initiative of Hans-Peter Fitschen and is a non-profit foundation based in Stade (c/o Kreissparkasse Stade). Its original endowment amounted to €100,000. It is dedicated to the preservation, care, research, and dissemination of the Low German language in the state of Lower Saxony. Since 2009, over €42,800 in funding has been awarded, including the statewide Plattdüütsch Film Prize for children and youth, Low German textbooks and training for educators, audio guides in museums, as well as initiatives such as "Platt is cool" and "Starter Schools Low German." Sponsors, partners, and supporters include the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture, various regional associations, savings banks, companies, and over 140 private individuals.

Mission & Vision

The Plattdüütsch-Stiftung Neddersassen is committed to preserving and promoting the Low German language as a living cultural language. It supports creative, scientific, and educational projects that anchor Low German in everyday life, education, and research. Special emphasis is placed on providing children and young people with access to the Low German linguistic culture and strengthening language awareness and identity across generations.

Target groups

Eligible to apply and receive funding are natural and legal persons with residence or business headquarters in Lower Saxony. Target groups include associations, schools, research institutions, museums, municipal projects, as well as individuals and initiatives that promote, convey, and further develop the Low German language through events, teaching and learning materials, film, or art projects.
