About the funder
The Saxon Foundation for Media Education (SSM) is a legally recognized foundation under civil law based in Leipzig. It was established in March 2000 by Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) and the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM). The purpose of this non-profit foundation is to promote science, research, as well as initial, advanced, and continuing education in the fields of media, media education, media pedagogy, and new information and communication technologies in the Free State of Saxony. To fulfill this purpose, the SSM awards financial resources to non-profit organizations, organizes its own educational programs, conducts or supports research projects, and provides students with interest-free or low-interest loans. Additionally, it organizes competitions and awards prizes.

Mission & Vision
The Saxon Foundation for Media Education is committed to sustainably improving the framework conditions for professional activities in the media sector in Saxony. Its goal is to enhance the level of training in electronic media and to support talented young professionals through financial assistance, its own educational programs, and research projects.
Target groups
Eligible for funding are non-profit corporations, associations, and other legally capable non-profit institutions in the Free State of Saxony, as well as students who may receive interest-free or low-interest loans. The programs are aimed at actors and projects in the fields of media education, media research, media technology, and media upbringing, which contribute to strengthening Saxony as a media location through innovative approaches and professional expertise.
