About the funder
The SBB – Foundation for the Promotion of Talented Individuals in Vocational Education is a non-profit organization under the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR). It coordinates two nationwide funding programs for vocational talents: the Continuing Education Scholarship for vocational beginners and the Advancement Scholarship for experienced professionals. Annually, more than 6,000 places are awarded in the Continuing Education Scholarship and up to 1,500 Advancement Scholarships. The SBB works closely with the involved chamber organizations (DIHK, ZDH, Federal Association of Liberal Professions) to support dedicated skilled workers with completed vocational training and proven exceptional performance in their university studies.

Target groups
The Advancement Scholarship is aimed at professionally experienced talents with completed initial vocational training, at least two years of professional experience, and outstanding professional achievements. It supports individuals who have gained university access through vocational qualifications (vocational final examination, advanced training, or placements in performance competitions) without a formal school leaving certificate and who wish to advance their professional development through full-time or part-time studies alongside their employment.
