About the funder

Section VI – Family and Youth is a specialized department within the Federal Chancellery that coordinates family and youth policy at the federal level. In Austria, there are approximately 1,125,000 families with children; the section shapes the financial and legal framework conditions such as family allowance, childcare benefits, and the family hardship compensation. At the same time, it develops programs to empower young people (youth policy, youth work, Austrian youth strategy, federal youth promotion) and is responsible for topics such as participation & engagement, physical and mental health, as well as media and information literacy.

Mission & Vision

The Section for Family and Youth is tasked with creating the best possible framework conditions for families and improving the living situation of young people. Through evidence-based policies, targeted funding programs, and comprehensive advisory and support services, it promotes equal opportunities, social participation, and shared responsibility within family and youth.

Target groups

The target group of the section includes all families with children in Austria as well as children, adolescents, and youth organizations. It is aimed at parents and guardians who require financial support and advisory services, as well as young people and youth associations seeking funding, participation, and policy frameworks for their projects and initiatives.
