About the funder
The Cancer Foundation "Betroffen" was established in 2014 by Prof. Dr. med. Matthias Birth, chief physician in Stralsund. It is primarily active in the Vorpommern-Rügen region, providing rapid and unbureaucratic assistance to tumor patients and their relatives where the healthcare system reaches its limits. Its services include psychosocial counseling, a hardship fund for those in financial distress, as well as the promotion of medical research and practical prevention and therapy measures.

Mission & Vision
Our goal is to support people with cancer and their families in all phases of the illness: preventively, during acute disease management, and in aftercare. We create low-threshold services to address fears, provide support, and enable social participation. In doing so, we act based on transparency, regionality, and sustainable commitment in Vorpommern-Rügen.
Target groups
The foundation is aimed at tumor patients and their relatives in the Vorpommern-Rügen region, particularly families who find themselves in an emotional or financial exceptional situation due to cancer. This includes affected individuals of all ages, their children, life partners, and other family members who wish to receive professional support in communication and coping with daily life.
