Stiftung Markstein

The Markstein Foundation is a legally recognized foundation established in 2011 by the educator Hans Markert, based in Berlin. It exclusively pursues charitable purposes in the fields of education, general and vocational training, and particularly supports socially disadvantaged children, adolescents, and young adults. Its focus is on providing uncomplicated grants for educational measures in both school and extracurricular settings, as well as on musical promotion through financing instrument rentals, wind and orchestra classes, and rehearsal trips. The foundation operates entirely on a voluntary basis and funds its annual support volume of approximately €70,000 from the returns on its endowment and additional donations.

The Markstein Foundation is committed to rapidly, unbureaucratically, and sustainably improving educational opportunities for financially disadvantaged young people in Berlin. Through straightforward project funding and voluntary engagement, it promotes personal responsibility, creativity, and cooperation, thereby contributing to equal opportunities and self-help in education.

The funding programs of the Markstein Foundation primarily target children, adolescents, and young adults from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in Berlin. Independent projects by schools, music schools, associations, and initiatives that offer extracurricular learning support, operate wind and string classes, or provide instrumental lessons are funded. The foundation also supports projects in which older students mentor younger ones through peer teaching.
