About the funder

The Pro Archaeologia Saxoniae Foundation is a consumer foundation based in Saxony, established by MIBRAG GmbH, with its fiduciary seat at the Culture and Environment Foundation Leipziger Land of the City and District Savings Bank Leipzig. Since its founding in 2002, it has supported and rewarded outstanding archaeological research projects by young scientists in Saxony, Lower Silesia, and Bohemia. The foundation works closely with the Saxony State Office for Archaeology and supports doctoral and postdoctoral research, research scholarships, as well as the awarding of the Werner Coblenz Prize and the Gerhard Bersu Scholarship.

Mission & Vision

The Pro Archaeologia Saxoniae Foundation aims to intensify cross-border scientific dialogue in archaeology and to strengthen awareness of a shared past in Saxony, Lower Silesia, and Bohemia. It honors scientific excellence, supports innovative research approaches, and seeks to accompany young archaeologists on their path toward independent, pioneering research achievements.

Target groups

The foundation's funding programs are aimed at highly qualified early-career researchers (doctoral candidates, habilitation candidates, and young researchers) in the field of archaeology who focus on topics related to Saxony, Lower Silesia (Voivodeship Dolnośląskie), and Bohemia (regions Karlovarský, Královéhradecký, Liberecký, Pardubický, Plzeňský, and Ústecký kraj as well as Středočeský kraj). Supported are dissertation and habilitation projects, outstanding museum presentations, as well as interdisciplinary research projects.
