About the funder
The Stiftung Umwelt und Entwicklung Nordrhein-Westfalen is a non-profit foundation under civil law, established in 2001 by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It promotes civic engagement for sustainable development and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Since its founding, it has supported around 1,900 projects with approximately €94 million. The foundation is financed by public funds from the state as well as lottery revenues and works closely with associations, initiatives, and other civil society actors in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Mission & Vision
"Promote commitment. Effect change." The foundation is dedicated to shaping societal transformation towards greater sustainability through local and regional initiatives and to raising awareness of environmental and development issues. It supports innovative project ideas of a social, ecological, and development policy nature and offers advice, networking, and training for full-time and volunteer staff.
Target groups
The funding programs are aimed at non-profit associations, initiatives, networks, and other civil society organizations, as well as individuals from North Rhine-Westphalia, who are voluntarily or professionally committed to environmental, climate, and nature conservation, development education, intercultural learning, or sustainable consumption. Projects with local to regional impact areas that link environmental and development concerns and contribute to the long-term strengthening of sustainable structures are supported.
