About the funder

The Thuringian Volunteer Foundation is a legally capable foundation under civil law, established in 2002 and based in Erfurt. It was founded by the Free State of Thuringia to promote, network, recognize, and make civic engagement publicly visible on a long-term basis. Through funding programs such as "Active Locally," the Thuringian Engagement Fund, awards like the Engagement Prize and the Volunteer Card, as well as advisory and networking services, the foundation supports non-profit associations, initiatives, and volunteers of all age groups. In addition to financial support, it undertakes tasks in public relations, qualification, and exchange of experience, working closely with political bodies, administration, and civil society partners.

Mission & Vision

The Thuringian Volunteer Foundation aims to strengthen, honor, and further develop voluntary engagement in the Free State of Thuringia. It promotes social cohesion by supporting individuals and organizations in implementing charitable projects, fostering innovative ideas, and sustainably raising public awareness of the importance of volunteer work. In doing so, it acts as a reliable partner and represents the interests of volunteers at the state level.

Target groups

The funding and recognition programs are aimed at volunteers aged 14 and above, as well as non-profit associations, initiatives, and organizations in Thuringia. Particular support is given to rural projects in the fields of culture, customs, child and youth work, environmental and monument protection, senior citizen work, and inclusion. Volunteer agencies, community foundations, and providers of non-profit activities can also receive assistance.
